Midcoast/Downeast UMVA Chapter Meeting Minutes: May 10, 2025

Updates to upcoming shows: 

• Mainely Gallery in Belfast–theme will be “Hidden Pathways.” Artists may submit one piece. Drop off is July 28th and show will run for the month of August. Opening reception Aug. 1. Images are not required, show is not juried. The exhibition space will be shared with gallery members. Check the UMVA site for a call and further details.

• Shows planned at the Bangor Library and Camden Library in 2026.

• Two current coordinators of the Local Color Gallery in Belfast spoke about the gallery. Local Color is looking for anyone who might be interested in taking over gallery management. Currently, four artists do the work of organizing the gallery, which is member-based. The gallery has been very successful in its location for nearly eight years. The next lease, to be agreed to in January 2026, extends the gallery’s occupancy for three more years. David Estey spoke about the UMVA ad in the Gallery Guide–we got a great deal with 40 artists participating, saved a lot of money. David will be featured in the new Local Color Gallery exhibition with opening reception and artist talk Friday, May 23, from 4-7.

Several members shared their artwork. We will meet again in September, second Saturday, at Camden Public Library.. Have a great summer!
