Leslie Moore

Medium: Linoleum block prints

Artist Statement

I am a printmaker and a poet whose subject is often animals. My art rises from chance encounters in the natural world—the aria of a catbird, the swoop of an osprey, the antics of a crow. Images and impressions lodge in my mind’s eye and ear until I turn them into prints or poems, perhaps both. I make linoleum block prints, practicing the reduction method, cutting a single block and printing a succession of colors. My art may be found in private collections, book illustrations and cover designs, at the Local Color Gallery in Belfast, and in the Wendell Gilley Museum gift shop in Southwest Harbor. I am the author/artist of Grackledom: Poetry/Prints/PenPets Drawings (Littoral Books, 2023) and What Rough Beasts: Poetry/Prints (Littoral Books, 2021) I live in Belfast with my husband, Tom, a poet, and my muse, Rumi, a cockapoo. I work in a printmaking studio in my backyard.
