Moore is a Nova Scotia native who’s early years were in Aroostook County, though she’s lived all over Maine, sometimes on boats. After graduating from Sarah Lawrence College, she worked in the arts & in the fashion industries in New York before returning to Maine to raise her son & focus on painting full-time. Specializing in oils, she explores industrial sites & work buildings in their various states (operational, abandoned, and repurposed) throughout Maine & the Maritimes. Chairs are another ongoing obsession. They’ve been subjects for artists since first existing 5,000 years ago. She’s curious why & why she also follows this compulsion. “They are one of the most human forms that isn’t & standing isn’t always an option for me. They’re a perfect excuse for experimenting and I’m glad every time I see one.” Her process is slow & by any means possible from living with MS for 30+ years, “With limited balance, stamina & haptic sensation, I’ve learned how to modify, conserving energy however possible for things that really matter & have meaning. I keep adapting & I keep on, connecting & telling stories with paint.” Additionally, Moore curates and creates spaces for other artists & those for whom creative expression is a necessity). She advocates by organizing shows & fostering engagement with art in unconventional spaces, and in places of healing wherever & however possible. Since 2018, she has served on the board of the Union of Maine Visual Artists, where she’s been active in various capacities since 2002.
