Landscape and Nature informs a large part of my work. I once was told “We are all verticals, looking for a horizontal.” and that statement resonates with me. We look to stabilize ourselves, seeking the horizontal for balance, hence landscape. In landscape I try to look beyond the surface and explore what’s not readily visible. My explorations start in reality but I work intuitively and wonder what might be there beyond what my eyes see. It is a very organic process which grows and changes as I work and respond to the piece in progress. I tend to work in series, usually starting with a theme and making stuff until I feel I have said what I need to say. I will revisit a theme if something that happens in Nature prompts me to continue exploring.
