Ericka O’Rourke is a Maine-based painter whose work is rooted in close observation of the natural world. Living and working along the midcoast of Maine, she draws inspiration from the region’s rugged shoreline, shifting tides, quiet forests, and underlying geology. Her oil paintings explore the meeting place of land and water, time and tide, through a balance of representational and abstract forms. O’Rourke’s practice is guided by seasonal cycles and the subtle rhythms of the coastal landscape. Through layered surfaces and a quiet, meditative approach to mark-making, her work reflects both change and continuity—what erodes, what remains, and what continually reshapes itself. She is a graduate of the Mason Gross School of the Arts and spent over 25 years working as a graphic designer and illustrator in the New York publishing industry before devoting herself fully to painting. That background continues to inform her sensitivity to composition, rhythm, and structure, while the focus of her work remains firmly rooted in painting. An award-winning artist, O’Rourke has exhibited widely in juried and group exhibitions, and her work is held in private collections throughout the United States and internationally. She paints full time through her studio, of Salt and Sky, in Bristol, Maine.
