Christine Johnson Higgins works in her woodland studio in Maine. She earned her B.A. in art from Marietta College, Ohio, and M.Ed. in Integrated Arts from Lesley University, Cambridge, Mass. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Northeast, Ohio, Ecuador and Finland. Publications in which she has been the featured artist include the nationally distributed arts magazine “Stone Voices”, “Leaves Surface Like Skin”, cover for a poetry publication by Dr. Michelle Menting and featured artist in the Summer 2021 edition of the Maine Arts Journal. She has volunteered in Nungua, Ghana, where she taught village children how to make paper from sugar cane. Her participation in a Harlow Gallery project titled Community Supported Agriculture/Community Supported Arts paired her with then Representative Craig Hickman and Dr. Jop Blom of Annabesacook Farm, to create art inspired by a year-long collaboration. Exhibitions throughout central Maine followed. She presented a Waterville Arts Pecha Kucha video and talk about this experience. In response to poetry by Dr. Michelle Menting, she created a fiber works slide show, Creep of Creativity, which was showcased in the 2019 Belfast Poetry Festival. In 2021, L.C. Bates Museum included her prints in a juried exhibition, “Marks and Tracks”. “On the Road with Waterville Creates” produced and distributed a video of her papermaking techniques which can be viewed on her website, christinejhiggins.me.
