Artist Statement
A blank canvas provides an opportunity to build connections between the chaos of the outside world and the deeply human response it evokes. My process begins with immersing myself in a landscape, exploring it from end to end, taking photos, and learning its history. I paint with images as inspiration, but move forward with intuition. The painting may capture the light and beauty of a particular moment, but the work evolves into a more abstract representation of memory and emotion. Art can never truly replicate nature; we may only attempt to interpret it. My artwork stands as a testament to my profound concern for the changing state of our planet. Utilizing up-cycled paper, acrylic, and texture media, I depict the fragility and endurance of Earth. My work encourages viewers to embark on a journey of contemplation, empathy, dialog, and hope for the future. By including my work in this exhibit, I hope to bring viewers closer to our diverse heritage and deepen our connections to the landscape.
