Not many people would sail around the world in a boat they built with their partner. Fewer still, would return from a global circumnavigation and take to the skies and waterways on an amphibious float plane their husband built from the proceeds of the boat sale. But this unconventional mode of exploration, coupled with a background in veterinary medicine and scientific illustration has led me down an unusual and convoluted art path where anatomy, chemical structure or subatomic physical properties bend, twist and transcend reality into simultaneous moments of past, present or future. Forests become follicles, shrubbery and distant ridgelines, viscera or microscopic organelles. Images are remembered or created from within and sublimate into an abstract representation of the connection consciousness has with the world around us. I believe in leaving half of the world for nature and I try to espouse this concept through my art.
