Call Description: Theoretical, visual and tactile, psychological, and interpersonal actions connect us. Our planet has infinite connections in the oceans and air, on land in the animal and plant kingdoms, and our biosphere. The auto-functions in our bodies made through interactions and connections are miraculous. The artist’s mind and body connect. They intuit the world and these varied associations.
Throughout art history, connections to community, plants and animals, God and the sublime have been depicted on cave walls, stones, vessels, and sculpted into forms. Figurative and landscape images were woven into tapestries—literal links of fibers. Through art—where materials, color, texture, composition, and structure combine—artists make meaning.
Artists are invited to explore these and other “connections,” interpreting the theme freely.

Eligibility: This juried exhibition is open to submissions from all current UMVA member artists. Our juror’s decisions are independent, final, and space is limited. Not all work will be accepted.
Artwork Guidelines: Artists may apply only once. Due to space limitations, artists may submit only 1 artwork that conveys the theme. To accommodate as many artists as possible, maximum size is 40” x 50” (including frame). All 2-D works must be wired for hanging. 3-D works that can be securely displayed can be considered. Fragile works will need their own display cases provided by the artists. All physical, digital and hybrid mediums are welcome, excluding generative AI and LLM. By applying, artists assert that their work is original and independently created by themselves.
Image Guidelines: File formats accepted: jpg , jpeg. Size requirements: At least 2100 px on the longest side (to print 7 inches at 300 ppi). Please use file names in this format:

Failure to properly label results in lots of extra work for your coordinators and juror, and reduces the likelihood you’ll be featured in PR. High-quality images are required to be included in exhibition catalog. Reach out to admin@theumva.org if you need tech help.

Pick Up/Uninstall Date: Wednesday, December 30, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Workshop Date: Saturday, December 5, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (More information to come.)
Commission: 35% to UMVA, 65% to artist. Artworks will be available by donation in the library and on our website.
