Why organize your show under the UMVA umbrella?
Practical Support • The UMVA offers help  locating venues, jurors, curators & mentors. UMVA artists and our Regional Groups across the state are familiar with many regional galleries, hospitals, libraries, restaurants and pop-up locations to show artwork. Check in with your local Regional Group and the Exhibitions Team for more ideas.
The UMVA Website • Our website houses all UMVA applications and their entries in a customized submission system that relieves coordinators and jurors many of the typical burdens of reviewing and selecting work for a show. The site also prominently lists Calls for Art — UMVA and those of our Sponsoring Members — in a dedicated Opportunities section.
The UMVA Newsletter • Our Newsletter and Bulletins reach 600+ members, announcing all UMVA- and Sponsoring-Member-related Calls for Art, deadline reminders, and exhibition-linked events, such as artist talks and openings.
The Maine Arts Journal • MAJ is our arts magazine, published quarterly to a subscriber base of 1900+ readers across Maine and beyond. You can promote your UMVA shows with articles, call notices, and other news. We also send invitations to public receptions for all UMVA exhibitions to this broader list.
Insurance • The UMVA offers limited liability insurance coverage for volunteers and insurance for works of art in the exhibition, in the event the gallery or venue’s insurance does not cover them.
UMVA Promotional Tool Kit • UMVA offers a helpful array of promotional tools to help you get the word out about your exhibition, such as sample press releases and design templates. Our publicity team also supports all shows by sending press releases to media contacts, creating social media posts, placing advertising, etc.
Funding • UMVA may be able to provide small reimbursements for preapproved exhibition expenses, such as Juror Honorarium and/or space rental, wall text, postcards, and opening refreshments.  (More info on funding and commission fees in the Rules & Guidelines. section.)
