Deborah J. Ripley, Owner of Artist in Motion, LLC, has been an Artist Member, since September 2021, at the lovely Lemont Block Collective Arts & Antiques, LLC, located at 150 Main Street, in Brunswick, Maine. She entered the world of art when friends encouraged her to make a "bucket list of things to do before she died". Stained-glass was at the top of the list. In finding this long lost dream, she began stained-glass art classes at age of sixty. For three years, every Friday from 9:00 - 12:00 p.m. Deborah and a good friend attended private classes with Diane Gosselin, who had a stained-glass studio and retail shop in Bridgton, Maine. Deborah was taught by the Tiffany Style Method and standards of making stained glass in this method. Deborah has been in two other galleries including: Gallery 302 in Bridgton, Maine and Meeting House Gallery in Freeport, Maine. Deborah also sells smaller items in retail shops in Maine. Deborah is known to strategically place artwork from nature such as ammonite fossils, agates, and geodes into her designs. Deborah's choice of textures and color of glass compliment her unique and one-of-a-kind patterns. She draws upon geometric shapes and creates arches with long swooping curves. She enjoys creating other glass items such as windcatchers, glass jewelry boxes, glass sea gulls on river rocks, lovely mermaids, glass on glass window hangings and also seasonal items such as bats, pumpkins, and holiday items such as ornaments for holiday trees. an wonderful gifts. Deborah states, "When I create large stain-glass hangings, they are designed mostly from memories in my life to create a lifelong picture in my mind of the special and heartfelt event. One such glass art is the "Andrea Gail". Deborah made this to change her mind's image of the sinking to honor the six crewmen whose lives were lost at sea during the "Perfect Storm" off the coast of Newfound Land. she created a Tiffany Style Method Stained-glass of the Andrea Gail Swordfish. The board is an incredible hue of light green meaning rebirth and the pinwheel rondelles symbolize the motion of the wind and seas during the hurricane. The Swordfish Vessel, at first glance, seems to be descending into the black abyss of the water. However, if the viewer takes a closer look, the boat is ascending into the stars of the night into the heavens carrying the men to a higher power of peace and serenity.
